Hostel review: YHA Canterbury

Niki Reynolds, YHA Canterbury Manager, and her team were delighted to receive this review after a harrowing time at the port of Dover for this stranded group from Luxembourg and we are pleased to share it with you…

“Unexpected Journey into the Shire!”

“Thanks to a strike in Calais, my group and I were held up one extra day in Britain with no place to sleep. Fortunately, the good ladies from YHA South Downs used their magic wands to book us night at the YHA Canterbury, which turned out to be one of the best places we’ve ever stayed at with a group of students.

Great food, spacious renovated rooms, a formidable building with great historical character, and did I mention the amazingly friendly staff? It came as quite a surprise, all the more so for my students when they discovered they would spend the night in a mini hobbitish village of brand-new cabins equipped with all amenities in the backyard, the jewel in the crown of this hostel.

We all had a great time, quickly forgot all the bother caused by the good people of Calais, and had a tremendous stay (including a short tour of historical Canterbury, a mere 10 minutes away from the hostel).

Thank you everybody at YHA Canterbury for making us feel so comfortable and at home! We absolutely loved our (much too) short stay!

Room Tip: All rooms are named after famous literary figures, I myself slept under the protection of good old St Ethelbert”
