SEVEN days, FIVE hostels, THREE musicians and ROSIE

This was a fantastic summer for the UK music scene, YHA and hostelling.

The Intermission Project, one of the UK’s most exciting, unsigned bands, joined YHA for a road trip of a lifetime. Setting off from London, the band and Rosie (the coolest VW van) weaved their way across South England for seven days. The talented lads (Jim, Alex and Charlie) stayed at five YHA hostels, took part in adrenaline fuelled activities and played live sessions at three stunning YHA locations.

The road trip was captured in a series of sessions and videos filmed by The Mahogany Blog, one of the UK’s leading YouTube channels for acoustic performances and champions of new independent music.

Tickets were free and special rates were on offer on rooms, meaning that all those attending were able to over-indulge on BBQ food and drinks and stay up late meeting future rock stars as well as fellow hostellers before resting their weary heads on a comfy YHA pillow.

YHA Danywenallt

The Intermission Project’s live set at YHA Danywenallt complete with hay bales and luscious Welsh countryside certainly made for a memorable show.

The guys and special guest Leo Stannard fully embraced their outdoor surroundings, taking up cycling and white water rafting. They carry the Lycra look well, don’t you think?

YHA Danywenallt is a beautiful converted Welsh farm house with excellent facilities set in the rolling Brecon Beacons and whilst secluded is still easily accessible. Surrounded by wooded slopes, high peaks, waterfalls and trails, this is an ideal retreat for those wishing to get away from it all. For those who like to be adventurous there are lots of fun activities available including hiking trails, sailing, boating, cycling and horse riding.

YHA Bristol

Bristol has a thriving live music scene, so it was fitting that the band had the opportunity to showcase their talent at one of YHA’s flagship hostels, joined by the super talented George Ezra, the guys set the roof of YHA Bristol on fire!

YHA Bristol is a high quality, four star hostel providing a relaxed oasis in the heart of Bristol. Located on the harbour, this former waterfront grain house has been sympathetically restored to offer relaxed cosmopolitan surroundings. There are 134 beds and facilities include TV, kitchen, cafe bar, Internet access, games room and laundry.

YHA Treyarnon

The Intermission Project brought the guests at YHA Treyarnon to a standstill, playing an unforgettable acoustic set with a beautiful backdrop.

YHA Treyarnon is situated above a gorgeous sandy bay. Formerly a 1930s summer residence, the hostel is virtually on the beach so guests can build sandcastles, surf and watch sunsets to their hearts content. Beach games and the obligatory buckets and spades are available for hire at the hostel.  An all-inclusive surf package is also available.

YHA Beer

The Intermission Project and Rosie, took a pit-stop and a quick rest at YHA Beer.

YHA Beer is a four star hostel set in a beautiful Victorian house, only a 10 minute walk to the peaceful and picturesque village of Beer and its stunning beach. Guests can take a dip at the beach, relax in the Arts and Crafts House, or sip on a cold – you guessed it – locally brewed beer. Activities nearby include mackerel fishing and safe sea swimming at the beach, fossil hunting and scuba diving, as well as walking the South West Coastal Path.

YHA London St Pauls

After seven nights, 700 miles, five hostels and countless new friends, The Intermission Project ended the YHA road trip in style. With a rooftop session overlooking London at the beautiful YHA St Pauls it was certainly one to remember!

Once a school for St Paul’s Cathedral choir boys, YHA St Pauls is just minutes from the West End by tube or bus yet provides a quiet retreat after a hectic day exploring. Looking out onto a truly iconic London scene, the hostel retains many original features including an oak panelled chapel and the headmaster’s study. There are a total of 213 beds with family rooms available, and facilities include Wi-Fi, Internet access, TV room, games room, common room, laundry and lockers. Evening meals are available in the licenced restaurant.

Make your ears happy and  listen to The Intermission Projects track, ‘Sorry’ taken from their forthcoming debut EP which is released later this year. We expect big things from these guys!
