To be able to savour the essence of Hong Kong, hiking is a great choice. A one-hour commute will bring you from the glamorous city centre of Hong Kong to a tranquil landscape. And what’s even better is you’ll be hiking for a good cause!
Ngong Ping Charity Walk (NPCW), the annual hiking extravaganza organised by the Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association (HKYHA), aims at arousing public awareness on conservation and raising funds for the hostels operation and cultural youth projects.
The coming seventh edition of NPCW will be taking place at Ngong Ping, Lantau Island. Besides the current two routes, Challenger 23km and Explorer 17km, a new Leisure 11km route will be introduced which is ideal for families and friends to enjoy the spectacular cable car journey and hiking in mountains and along sea shores.
To encourage international participants, HKYHA has a special package on offer: For only a HK$750 donation per person, participants can stay at the newly furbished Jockey Club Mt. Davis Youth Hostel from 19 to 21 January 2013 (3 days 2 nights) with enrollment fee, breakfast and free shuttle to Mass Transit Railway on the event day.
The Hostel is equipped with an impressive array of facilities including backpack-sized lockers with power sockets, a common room equipped with a pool table, and a canteen-cum-multi-purpose room. Guests can also opt for an historic walk to visit a series of World War Two military relics nearby, including the command headquarters, arsenal and batteries of the British military forces at Mount Davis.
Don’t miss the chance to experience the natural beauty of Hong Kong and support this wonderful and meaningful activity. Visit NPCW 2013 website for online registration and updates now! (Application deadline: 30 November 2012)
