‘Canada Day’ is the national day of Canada, a state holiday celebrating July 1, 1867 when the three British North American colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the Province of Canada were united into the one great country, Canada. Affectionately known as ‘Canada’s Birthday’, it is a day of celebration throughout the whole of Canada, and other parts of the world too.
Canada Day Celebrations
Many communities will have been preparing for this special day well in advance and typical outdoor events include festivals, carnivals, air shows, firework displays, open-air concerts and general merry-making throughout the whole day. It’s no surprise that the nation’s capital Ottawa, Ontario and its famous Parliament Hill will be a place for great celebration, as it is every year. Popular anniversary events include large music concerts, a flypast by the Snowbirds (Canada’s aerobatics flight team) and Queen Elizabeth II has also been known to turn up on occasion.
Trafalgar Square Celebrations
But you don’t have to go all the way to Canada to celebrate this special day. Canadian expatriates and plenty of other people too will be celebrating in countries all around the world. Trafalgar Square in London is a hugely popular place for Canada Day celebrations and its happening right now! Trafalgar Square will be awash with red and white and activities including sports, music, celebrities and Canadian cuisine all day long. We also have the pleasure of hosting some great Canadian music talent including Blue Rodeo, Karkwa, Alex Cuba and many more. Visit Canada Day London for full details of events and activities.
