If you’re like us, you try your best to live sustainably and make environmentally-friendly choices. By bringing reusable shopping bags to the grocery store, using energy efficient light bulbs (that get turned off when not in use!), buying locally produced goods, and opting to commute to work by walking, biking, or using public transportation when possible, we are continually working towards establishing habits that help protect our beautiful planet.
But what about when we travel? We already know how to be responsible, sustainable travellers once we arrive in our destination, but what about during our journey there? That part can be less straightforward, especially when flying.
Air travel alone accounts for approximately 2.5% of global CO2 emissions. That may not seem like much, but it’s a sizeable chunk when you consider that flying is only one of the many human activities contributing to a warming planet, and forecasts predict that number to increase to more than 20% by 2050. While we may be witnessing exciting advancements in alternative energy sources for our cars, commercial airliners by and large still require traditional fuel, which makes it difficult to make sustainable choices.
Luckily, we’ve got you covered, showing you how we as individuals can make choices that create a more eco-friendly flying experience.
