Do you fancy sunning yourself along the Mediterranean coast in the South of France this summer while volunteering your time to a creative and constructive project? You could be in luck! Marseille – Bonneveine hostel is looking for three volunteers to help out in a summer work camp this July!
This backpacker and family hostel, located on the beautiful sunny coast of the South-East of France, has set their self a challenge this summer: to renovate their well-loved terrace!
With more than 300 days of sunshine each year, the youth hostel’s outdoor terrace is the guests’ main meeting point and an important place for inter-cultural exchange. The terrace links the kitchen, the bar and the concert room and has become the heart of the youth hostel as travellers meet there and friendships are developed.
The project
In order to improve the overall guest experience, the big terrace will be renovated this summer with the indispensable help of eight international volunteers, aged 18 years and over. They will work approximately 6 or 7 hours per day. The site will be divided into two project teams from the outset:
• Team 1: Four volunteers will be in charge of making an outdoor barbecue on the terrace. This project is ideal for creative volunteers with an interest in construction work.
• Team 2: Four volunteers will be restoring the beautiful outdoor mural painting on the terrace which was made in 1995 and covers more than 16 square metres. A keen interest in painting and attention to artistic detail are key to this work.
When
From the 2 -16 July 2014 (arrival on 1 July and departure 17 July)
As this project will take place in the middle of the summer (during high season), it is a fantastic opportunity to meet explorers from all over the world and to discover new cultures.
Accommodation
Accommodation will be provided free of charge for the volunteers at the hostel. A dorm room and bathroom will be provided exclusively for the volunteers. The dorm room is large, light and airy with direct access to the garden.
Food
A self-service breakfast will be provided in the hostel’s canteen each morning. The hostel’s kitchen staff will prepare lunch and dinner (which will also be served in the canteen by the volunteers).
Activities during free time:
The youth hostel’s attractive location offers volunteers the opportunity to explore the city centre, go hiking in the Calanques National Parc, or relax on the beach, amongst other things.
Although these trips need to be arranged by volunteers, Marseille – Bonneveine hostel’s staff are a great source of advice and will help you make the most of your trip. Activities can be organised within the volunteer team as well as with other visitors of the hostel.
