What is Earth Hour?

The world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment. While remaining an impactful visual call-out, its true impact is starting to be seen in areas and communities fighting climate change on an everyday basis. At 8:30 pm on Saturday 25 March 2017, hundreds of millions of people across the globe will switch off the non-essential lights of homes and businesses for one hour. Hostelling International supports this movement and encourages you to take part too!

How to participate?

In-hostel: Upon check-in, ask if the hostel is preparing something for the Earth Hour! (If you`re in Iceland on the 25th, don`t miss on their poetry night and Icelandic Ghost stories!) Taking part in the organised activities allow you to meet new people and to engage in a meaningful way. You can also have a DIY Earth Hour: gather the people you`re sharing the dorm with, switch off the lights and have a horror stories telling hour!

At home: Jump in community activities. Activities are organised all around the globe: Candlelit dinners, famous landmarks switching off the lights, and more are waiting for you. Check out the WWF map and see what will be happening around you.
