And the winner of the 2015 HI Sustainability Fund Competition is…

The 2015 HI Sustainability Fund Competition has been an exciting race, with serious candidates showing the depth of their commitment to sustainability. The general public, our sustainability coordinators and a panel of international jury, have now spoken.

We are proud to announce that the winner of the 2015 HI Sustainability Fund Competition is…
RESTORE OUR LAND, HI ICELAND.

008 - Restore Our Land - Iceland

And the second prize will go to…
A BREATH OF FRESH AIR, STAYOKAY (NETHERLANDS)

001 - A breath of fresh air - Netherlands

HI Iceland has presented the favourite project and has been able to rise the enthusiasm around it. A helpful grant of £7,000 will be given to Restore our land, allowing the reduction of 28 tonnes of CO2 per year from its realization and on! A breath of fresh air, by Stayokay came in second place, and therefore will receive £1,500 as an award to allow its realization that will save 1,168 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Given the total amount the two winning projects applied for is lower than the total available grant, we are happy to announce that

SOLAR POWER INSTALLATION AT HI-ATHABASCA FALLS, by HI CANADA,

that made it to the third position, will be granted with £3,500. It will help saving 15 tonnes of CO2 per year and 6600 litres of diesel per year.

005 - Solar power installation at HI-Athabasca - Canada

Once again, the high number of votes and the involvement of various internal and external stakeholders show that environment, global footprint and climate change represent a contemporary concern that everyone has a share of responsibility in. The tonnes of CO2 saved by the winning and running up projects are considerable and form an important part of a continuous improvement process for our HI network.

We would like to congratulate all the authors of the candidate projects that gave their all to elaborate original initiatives, to share them internally and externally and to think about the impact of hospitality and tourism on the environment. By doing so, they prove that they are responsible and that they care about respecting the planet in order for future generations to be able to enjoy all the wonders it offers every day.

Safe (and sustainable) travels!

RESTORE OUR LAND, HI ICELAND.

008 - Restore Our Land - Iceland

Et la seconde place va à…

A BREATH OF FRESH AIR, STAYOKAY (NETHERLANDS)

001 - A breath of fresh air - Netherlands

SOLAR POWER INSTALLATION AT HI-ATHABASCA FALLS, par HI CANADA,

005 - Solar power installation at HI-Athabasca - Canada
