Experience HI Quality in Barcelona: Pere Tarrés hostel gets our stamp of approval

We don’t think anyone within our worldwide community would say no to a bit of Barcelona: with its boundless culture, resplendent architecture and world class dining scene, this is certainly a Spanish city of standards, and our Pere Tarrés hostel has claimed the cherry on top.

Newly certified with our HI-Q seal of approval reserved for our highest quality hostels, we caught up with Mariluz Álvarez, the hostel Director, to find out what’s so special about Pere Tarrés and the whole experience it delivers.

A bit about Pere Tarrés…

This is not just a hostel, but a way of giving back to local communities, Mariluz tells us: “the Pere Tarrés Foundation is a non-profit social action entity which has been active for more than 50 years. Mainly promoting leisure education and social interaction, more than 200,000 people benefit from our programs every year – mainly children and young people”.

What makes the hostel so special?

“Our location is just the start of the experience – you can be wandering the streets of La Rambla in less than 10 minutes and marvelling at Gaudi’s architecture. We provide all of the modern facilities you could want and need; spacious rooms, private bathrooms, a relaxation terrace, meeting rooms and of course, Wi Fi. What really makes us special, though, is our impression and connection with our guests: we go the extra stretch to make sure everyone can enjoy Barcelona.”

How can our community of travellers benefit from Pere Tarrés’ HI-Quality status?

“Our high quality is reflected across our ratings from customers – and this is because we work as a team and involve staff in all departments, across all levels. We also support and contribute to HI’s environmental philosophy by focusing on our eco efforts; for example we reduce and recycle waste, encourage our guests to use water sparingly, and work on reducing energy consumption.”

What’s Barcelona’s best kept secret for our travellers to discover?

“Barcelona has lots of interesting places, many of them are undiscovered: we invite our guests to look beyond the typical touristic places like Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, Ramblas or the Barça stadium Nou Camp.

One of those hidden secrets is the historical Botanical Garden with the tallest trees of the city. Another is the Barcelona Gothic Quarter in which you can find a house in Paradís Street with a little medieval courtyard. Inside you see the four columns of the August Temple, which are more than two thousand years old – like Barcelona itself.”

Any up-and-coming events in Barcelona to point our travellers towards?

“Barcelona is alive the whole year with too many events to name! But our guests can follow our own blog where we explain what happens in our city. The blog is called Todo Barcelona by Pere Tarré, where you will always find interesting, current information of what is taking place in our city. Be our guest! You are most welcome!”
