When you travel, you want to keep in touch with friends at home and get the latest information. For guests in German Youth Hostels that’s no problem: 160 of 520 Youth Hostels of the German Youth Hostel Association (DJH) offer free Wi-Fi now, e.g. in Hamburg, Bavaria (Munich, Nuremberg, etc.), Schleswig-Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia (Cologne, Düsseldorf, etc.).

An advantage on journeys are smartphones and tablets: you can check you mails, get information about the local sights or book the next stay in a Youth Hostel. For this reason many Hostels in Germany updated their standards and offer free Wi-Fi in the lobby area. So you can plan your day, send greetings home or upload the pictures you took to your online profile. To get to know which hostels offer this free service you can also check the hostel´s homepage or the youth-travel-app on http://Germany.travel/youth listing 1000 more free Wi-Fi hotspots.
