Gurten Music Festival (The Gurtenfestival)

Gurtenfestival

The Gurtenfestival is an iconic music festival that takes place right on top of a mountain peak called the Gurten, 280 metres above the capital of Switzerland, Bern. Originally a folk festival in the 1970s, the last 20 years has seen it grow to become a major international music festival playing host to some of the biggest bands on the music circuit.

This year is no exception and the 4-day music event between July 14-17 plays host to the Arctic Monkeys, Jamiroquai, Kaiser Chiefs, Jamie Cullum, Plan B, The Ting Tings and many more! There are 3 music stages and 3 dance tents along with special bars and lounges for those wishing to chill out, relax and enjoy views over Berne and the beautiful Swiss countryside.

The festival is set in the idyllic wooded area on top of the mountain which is easily reached from the designated parking area either by foot or via the wonderful red panoramic cars of the Gurten train. Due to the geographic location of the Gurtenfestival on top of the Gurten Mountain, its 20,000 capacity is unable to be exceeded resulting in an intimate and relaxed atmosphere enjoyed by all.

HI Sleep Zone

This year we are sponsoring a special HI Sleep Zone with Swiss YHA where people can come and chill out, relax and listen to the great music. We are there for the full 4 days in the fantastic wooded area designated for tents. If you’re visiting the Gurten Music Festival this year, be sure to find us at the HI Sleep Zone and enter one of our fantastic competitions.

Bern Attractions

Bern is a beautiful city and well worth a discovery if you have the time or the energy. The historic old town has been entered into the list of UNESCO Cultural World Heritage Sites and contains such attractions as the tallest cathedral in Switzerland, a collection of Renaissance fountains as well as historical buildings, churches and bridges. Check out our Hostels in Bern for a place to stay while visiting this enchanting city.

A full listing of bands attending this year can be found at the official Gurtenfestival website (http://www.gurtenfestival.ch/) along with program details, ticket prices and the sleeping zone.
