Ci spiace, ma questo articolo è disponibile soltanto in English.
My favorite hostel in the US is the Phoenix Youth Hostel. I love the staff that works there and love the community filled hostel. The decorations, book room, kitchen, and even bathrooms are amazing. I met so many cool people there and hope to visit again. I felt relaxed and had a true vacation away from LA.
Washington DC’s fabulous HI is only a couple of blocks from the White House, and not much further to downtown, and the terrific Museums and Memorials on The National Mall.
It also has a great, friendly atmosphere, and is the perfect place to get some travel tips and talk to fellow travellers about your experiences.
Chicago is also sensationally located – in the Downtown Loop, close to subway stations (for easy, cheap travel from and to O’Hare and around the city), across the road from the terrific Auditorium Theatre, and a short walk to The Art Institute and Millenium Park. It’s a great base to explore Chicago, after building up your energy with the great free breakfasts!
My favorite HI hostel was in Frankfurt Germany. This was my first time on vacation alone and this place made me feel very comfortable and safe. I will definately go back and stay here again. This Hostel was extremly clean and was very close to the city center and everything was within walking distance. The staff here was extremly helpful with every type of question from local transportation info, to where some good places to eat and visit are.
I cannot wait to stay in the Santa Monica hostel next month! It will be my first time to the US and can’t wait to see the sights and make some new friends
Two years ago I travelled through Australia. I stayed only at YHA hostels. Well, in Brisbane I couldn’t stay there because it was fully booked. I booked at another hostel. IT SUCKED!! I had a good amount of money, so I actually stayed 3 nights at a hotel…
The number one hostel was Sydney Central YHA! I stayed there for 4 weeks all together. The facilities was great, and the staff were really helpful, with everything. The location is great, walking distance to some of the “biggest” attractions. I hope to someday be able to go back, and I will absolutely stay there!
The good one within the reach of Jim Corbett national park-is YH-JIM CORBETT

If you find yourself in Australia, head to Yamba, NSW and stay at the YHA there! One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at. Brand new family run hostel in a beautiful town. Couldn’t get enough of the place. Read more about my stay there: http://www.travelfreak.net/au/nsw-au/shanes-ten-buck-tour-yamba-nsw/
Just returned from a brilliant 10 days in Iceland staying in youth hostels. All the seven HI hostels we stayed at were great, but one was amazing – the HI hostel in Broddanes is a converted school, with a fairly small number of rooms, a great kitchen, stylish living room space and a computer/wifi. The best part was the lovely view out into the fjord, and the small island right next to the hostel with puffins and lots of other interesting birds (the hostel owner even provided binoculars in the kitchen to watch them!). It well worth the drive on gravel roads to get to the remote location for a nice relaxing stay! Also, I really commend the team at HI Iceland for their help in booking our trip (and car hire), especially after the Grimsvotn volcano erupted, forcing us to change our route – they helpfully suggested an alternative and rebooked different hostels (including Broddanes!) for us a couple of days before we arrived.
My first experience with a HI hostel was in Chicago last year. My overall impression of the hostel is that it is an excellent place to stay. It is in a great location close to Grant Park and Millennium Park.
The large kitchen which has all the amenities impressed me as did the common space decked out with foosball, pool table and table tennis table.
I believe the thing that makes or breaks a hostel is the staff and I can say the staff at Chicago HI Hostel are pleasant, informative and willing to help.
Hi Hostels have impressed me so much that I have booked the Boston HI Hostel for my next trip in which I leave for in a few weeks!
San Luis Obispo. Great location and staff (although this was a few years ago, so staff may have changed)
Disclaimer: I work for YHA in Australia, so I won’t pick one of their hostels. All of them are my favourites of course! Sydney and Yamba mentioned above are great!
My favourite international HI Hostel would be Peking Yard YHA in Beijing. It’s a beauttiful and peaceful hostel in the historic Hutong area. It’s a secret oasis in the city with a lovely, flower filled courtyard. I just fell in love with it the first time I was there.
my favorite is the hi hostel at Puerto Iguazu in Argentina! With a carvery roast, great pool, amazing and deadly happy hour specials! Also so close to such as amazing world class attraction, what else is there!!
Hi Julie … thanks for your comment, couldn’t agree with you more
